Mo Salah Wins African Player Of The Year 2017








Egypt and Liverpool's Mohammed Salah has won the the best African Player for the year 2017 at a plush event held at the Accra International Conference Centre.He beat off not so stiff competition from his Liverpool team mate Sadio Mane(Senegal) who cake second and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Dortmund and Gabon who came third.Salah thus becomes the first player to win both BBC African footballer and the CAF edition at the same time.

As advertised earlier,the show was compered by Boris Kodjoe with help from his wife Nicole Ari Parker,Didier Drogba and  Carol Tsabalala. Award events these days cannot go without musical performances;in line with that Ghana's own Efya,Patoranking,Phyno Fino,Fally Ipupa,Flavour,Tiwa Savage, Wizkid and Kidi were on stage to do just that.

In attendance at the well publicised #AiteoCAFAwards2017 were The Presidents of Ghana,CAF and GFA;Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo,Ahmad Ahmad and Kwesi Nyantakyi respectively.
African football greats like Stephen Appiah,the "bald" Didier Drogba,El-Hadji Diouf,Geremi Njitap,Samuel Eto'o were in attendance to grace the occasion.

Aside the biggest gong won by Salah,other award winners were;

  • Women National Team Of The Year-South Africa
  • CAF Young Player Of the Year-Patson Daka of Zambia and Red Bull Salzburg
  • Club Of The Year-Wydad Casablanca Of Morocco
  • CAF Legends Award-Alhaji Ibrahim Sunday
  • Football Leader of the Year-Ahmed Yahaya of Mauritania
  • Male National Team Of The Year-Egypt
  • Women's Player Of The Year-Asisat Oshoala
  • CAF Platinum Award-Nana Akufo-Addo and George Opong-Weah (President-elect of Liberia)
